Portsmouth Guildhall

The first organ installed here was built by Gray & Davison in 1887 with 4 manuals and52 speaking stops. it was rebuilt by Binns in 1926 but sadly the Guildhall and the organ were destroyed by an incendiary bomb on the night of 10th January 1940.

The present organ was built by Compton in 1959 and is an extension organ containing 20 ranks (1616 pipes). The organ is contained within two chambers above the Proscenium Arch with the great and choir in the first chamber, and the swell and solo in the second.

The instrument also has a playback facility.
